All of us knitters do it. We are always looking for a fun new yarn to buy at usually outragous prices. Has anyone dyed there own yarn. If so, how did you do it and how did it turn out? I am contemplating trying it but have no idea how. Anyone know what yarn to start out with?

If you are working with wool yarn, Koolaid drink mix works very well, is pretty colorfast, and dirt cheap. Make sure you use the plain unsweetened powder, not the sweetened kind. Also, be sure to dye all you will need for the project at once. I have had a lot of success buying wool sweaters in light colors at tag sales, unraveling them, and dyeing the wool for felting projects.
