I had a relation for 4 years and the last 6 months was looooong distant. In this case it was good coz he was very abusive and beeing away from him made me gain the strenght to break up with him. He didnĀ“t scare me as much beeing thousands of miles away. however - I remember that I in the beginning hated it and I would not even try to go through that again. I would rather move =)

It never worked. Once i had a boyfriend who worked in another country. We wrote to each other, exchanged taped cassettes, telephoned. But it didnt work for us. I think there was not much chemistry between us to have a long distance relationship. But there are people who make it work but with great difficulty.

I haven't had a long distance love affair yet. But if given a choice, i don't want to try it.

during my time 5 years, when I studied in the key city of our country and my husband was left in our town.
yeah it work.
as long as there is trust, understanding and most of all LOVE surely it will work out
our schedule at the time when celphones and computers( internet) are not yet available is thru a long distance call once a week thru land line and also mailing letters and once I have at least 3 days vacation from school I see to it to go home and be with my family and ! day for our bonding and date.
it worked for he is now my husband

About long distance relationship, I haven't been to one. But I think it is based on the trust so that the things will work. I have a friend who's in a situation like that and the guy and her seem to get along quit ok.

I was in a long distance relationship for a few months. In the end, it just didn't work out. He was about 6 hours away from me and I did drive to see him once but I couldn't afford to keep doing that and he was even broker then I was.
I think that a long distance relationship can work if both parties are willing to come visit each other, talk on the phone/email often. But to have a future with someone in a long distance relationship, someone will have to make a sacrifice and move to be with the other person if they want to get married, etc.

I have tried having a long distance relationship in the past and my longest was 3 years.
Of course it did not work, at that time when we were together we had all the plans in the world...we plan to marry on this particular year and probably migrate to another country etc. etc.
Even if it was a long distance relationship, I was so contented with it, I spend so much on it when it comes to phone bills, internet, plus if i have to send a gift to him on ocassions I have to pay a shipping fee.
In ocassions if we decide to see each other we have to pay plane fare. But inspite of all these obstacles...I continued with the realtionship for 3 years....on the last year we were together i caught him having an affair with another woman.
So from that time on I dont agree with long distance relationship anymore...I had a traumatic experience with it I would say.
You put a whole lot of effort on it and if one partner fools around its kinda hard to catch him/her.
Im happily married now....but if a friend of mine ask me the same question...i dont think i would want to encourage them to engage in one....

My long distance relationship was actually about 2 hours away. We started dating in 2002, living two hours away, and then I moved further away, and then he moved again, so we were about 2 hours away, again. And it stayed that way for about a year and a half. Then we lived in the same town for one month, before he had to move back to his mom's house because he quit his horrible job, so we were 2.5 hours away. Then, he finally moved back!
We're married now. :)
