The Future of US Military Transport

United States

Yesterday, I picked up a copy of the latest issue of Popular Science, and I came across this fascinating article about the future of US military transport. Basically, the US Marine Corps is developing a prototype "space transport" that could get a squad of marines from point A to point B in two hours or less, without having to wait for permission to pass through foreign airspace. Needless to say, if this project can overcome technological and political hurdles, it would change the rules of combat significantly. So my question to you is this: In light of what US forces have done in recent years, is this a step forward, or a step in the wrong direction?
