Peshawar(Urdu:?????) literally means City on the Frontier in Persian and is known as Pakhawar in Pashto. It is the provincial capital of Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province. Located on the edge of the Khyber Pass, Peshawar is the commercial, economic, political and cultural capital of the Pakistani frontier and, particularly, of the Pashtuns. In ancient times the city was known as Purushapura when it was officially founded by the Kushans. For much of its history, it was one of the main trading centers on the ancient Silk Road and was a major crossroads for various cultures between the subcontinent and Central Asia.

Neha, your knowledge is great about Peshawar. Im myself from Peshawar. Im Pathan by birth. I love to know about my city. Pukthtun people are very hospitable. They even can sacrifice their lives for their guest. You did not mention it nor you mentioned WROOR WALI" of pukthun. Anyway wish you good luck

Good to know more about the city my ancestors belong to. Would love to go there someday and see it for myself.I am quite proud of the fact that I too am a Pathan, unfortunately due to Political resaons am not able to go to visit my home land nor see my relatives who are mostly in Peshawar I presume.
