How can a mother do anything to prevent Autism, if she has no idea what causes it in the first place? You could avoid eating tuna during pregnancy (which has mercury in it, I guess), but that might not help. You could avoid a myriad of toxins in the environment (which would be nearly impossible, unless you lived in a cave!), but even then, is it really a guarantee? When I was pregnant with my son, I didn't do anything differently (that I'm aware of) then I did during my first pregnancy. Granted, I had a girl the first time around. I didn't drink, didn't smoke.. I had no real serious complications. If doctors can finally figure out the cause and share it with men and women, then mothers will no doubt do what they can to prevent it from happening to their children.
