Taiwonese Earthquake

Did anyone hear about the earthquake that happened just before christmas it was just off the coast of taiwon. Measuring something like 7 on the richoter scale it knocked out most of asias internet. Apparently most of Asia is supplied by the US along massive cables that go through the atlantic ocean...somewhere they were broken! I didnt know the internet was so vulnerable i thought it was done by satelite...crazy or what? Anyway my internet is still very slow but its working away...anyone else know anything about this or am i just vvverrryyy slow?
