What is better a lie that brings a smile or a truth that brings a tear?

You face this situation many times in life when you can lie and save a heart from breaking and on the other end if you lie the other person would feel really bad. what do you do at that time??? i usually stick to the truth but i say it in the way that does not make the other person feel that bad.

obviously, 'honesty is the best policy' is not applicable here. let us say, i'm a father my 4-year-old child is sick and i want my child to take the syrup/medicine but my child won't take the syrup because of its bad taste, so tell me what should i do then? what should i say to my child? first, i'll taste a little and pretend by gesturing that the syrup has a good taste...

i'd rather be honest than lie just to make someone smile. i do believe that some people lie to others just to make someone's feeling better. but it's not right. it is better to tell the truth than say words that one person wants to hear. truth hurts. but it's okey. it's from the truth where we learn lots in this life.
