Are elders always right ? Are elders always wise?

Since childhood, I have been told to follow what elders tell me to do. Whenever I wanted to make a choice of my own, I was told otherwise and was never given any reason whatsoever. If I argued and made a scene than they would simply blame me for being disobedient and displaying bad manners. Why is it people think that age brings wisdom?

The wisdom of the elders comes from life experiences. So if they have lived and learned what life is and how to make it better for others then they are wise, but if they are like a lot of my friends they are never going to be wise.

Agreed you learn from experience.. But my question is: Why is it they want to teach me everything? I can learn things on my own. Let me atleast try... And then they'll say you never listen to us.. Is that the only excuse or arguement they have to give in the end of every debate. Or wose they'll say you don't do anything of your own.

It is true that age brings wisdom. Perhaps it is from listening to those who advised them or perhaps from learning the hard way, on their own. But, the truth is, elders have lived longer than you (we) have and have often experienced similiar situations or problems. I don't agree that elders are always right but I do think that they mean well and are trying to help you avoid situations that may be hurtful to you in some way. If you are under the age of 18, it is the responsibility of your elders to try and guide you into good decisions. If you are over 18, you are free to do as you choose, but tread cautiously if someone you love has tried to guide you in a different direction. And, guess who will be there to catch you when you fall? Right...loved ones.

Said well enough to earn a best response. The most important thing you have said here is that your loved ones mean well.. they never want you to get hurt.. and whether you take their advice or not they are always on your side and are there for you.

People think this because people don't know any better. A 10 year old girl living on the streets of Africa will have better survival skills than a 75 year old man who is the CEO of a large company. The man may know more about running his own business, but the young girl will know more about "living in the real world." It all depends on the TYPE of experience.

Elders are right most of the time. They have learnt from their experience. But sometimes when they insist on traditions with no reason that is when i am cheesed off.
