Can you tell the difference when you cook with fresh garlic and powdered garlic? I honestly can't. My husband thinks it taste better. I just think we are spending more money on fresh garlic when we could be using the powder.

well if you dont get chance to have a small garden for herbal then yes you will spend a lot of money on garlic, but the powder garlic i think has chemical already thats why it taste better.,but if you choose to avoid more chemicals then you better plant a good garlic on your garden.

I have never used garlic powder cos we always use the fresh ones. We use it chopped so that the full impact will be there. I think, garlic powder should be giving better taste cos its concentrated.

Honestly, I don't cook with garlic much. I've always used the garlic powder if I needed to use it. I've never even bought real garlic before.

For me, taste wise fresh garlic is more flavourful than the powder. I use garlic powder only when i want to fix up something instantly. Else, I prefer fresh garlic. My suggestion to you is buy garlic when they are inexpensive and put them in a ziplock bag in your freezer and it will last for quite sometime. Use mutliple zip bags to make sure that the smell of the garlic is not spread all around the freezer.

I can definately tell the difference. Powdered garlic actually seems more potent to me. Fresh garlic tastes more natural, since it is:) To decide which I would rather use depends on the meal I am making. I think it would be a little weird to add fresh chopped or diced or minced or however you wanna cut it garlic to my lasagna! I would prefer garlic powder and salt. For many other pasta dishes I would actually wish to use both fresh and powder...but I love garlic. Fresh garlic is awesome when baked, mashed up and mixed with butter for a spread! I would use each one on a case by case basis- if it feels more right to use the powder then powder away! Especially since it is cheaper. Perhaps go half and half to make your husband happier and save a little extra money.

Yes, there is a big difference in taste. I get sick from the powdered garlic, but not the fresh one.
