I was an only child so I'd like to have a bigger family, but money is tight so I don't want to go overboard. I at least want to have 1 boy, beyond that it's all gravy. I already have a 7 month old daughter but if the next kid ends up being another girl, I could be talked into having more. How many kids would you like to have/already have and what genders?

if you really want to have more than one kids, even if money is scarce, with hardwork and perseverance, you can afford at least two kids. but my advice is you at least resort to family planning. like have the other kid after three or four years coz by then money would be easy to budget if like say one has already finished school, you can be at peace that the other one can also finish school because you only spend for the one left, and it will help you save money.

We have 6 kids... 3 of each. The older kids help us with the younger kids... which is great. The downside is that the house is rarely quiet!!

I think it is horible when a parent says all I want is a boy/girl. then they get the opposite and they keep trying for the one the WANTED. what about the one you have. How will you feel when your daughter reads this and sees that you only wanted a boy. That you would have stopped with her, if she was a boy. not cool

If I could do it without having an issue with money, I would LOVE to have a huge family of maybe even up to 8 kids. I love children and I love the feeling of family. But I am quite blessed and stretched to my financial limits already as a single mom living with 3 teens! LOL
My kids are boy/girl twins age 15 and oldest, daughter, 17 (almost 18!!!!). And I wouldn't trade being a parent in for anything in the world. It's the most wonderful thing I've done with my life.

We have 3 children, two girls and a boy. We'd like to adopt 3 more children, two boys and a girl. So that would make a total of 6, three girls and three boys. I just want there to be an even number when we're done.
I think having a large family is really important to me and my husband, but at the same time there are so many children without parents of their own, so it's important to make sure that every child has a family.

My ideal family is composed of 5 people so it means 3 children like what I'm used to. So I also want that for my future family. I want 2 girls and 1 boy, the girls being the eldest and youngest and the boy in the middle, exactly like my family. But I think my future wife wants four, 2 girls and 2 boys, and I am fine with that. 3-4 kids sounds good to me.

Wow-- I just read the other responses.
For me the answer is 1. Some say that it is important for a child to have siblings to confide in-- to feel close to. I agree to some point. I have only 1 child and plan to keep it that way. I love being able to do more with my daughter because I have the $$ or the time to devote to her. Most of her friends have a couple brothers and sisters.. They do not do nearly as much as we do. We are also blessed with lots of cousins of the same age. I grew up in a close knit family with lots of cousins. My daughter will do the same.
I'm not sure about you but the thought of putting more than 1 child through college frightens me. But each to their own.

We have five boys! They are ages 14, 10, 5, 2 and 6 months old. I really always wanted to have a large family and am very thankful to have all of these happy & healthy children. I did really want to have atleast one daughter but God gave us boys and (after some tears letting go of the dream of a daughter) we do feel blessed.
People always ask "are they all yours?" and "are they all boys?" and I answer yes and we are also alllllll done. Five is enough!

just my discussion, I have 2 boys, ages 5 and 16 months, and we are pregnant with our 3rd, due in sept, hoping for a girl, but as long as he/she is healthy we'll make do with that! We are stopping no matter what!!! so 3 is our ideal family! :)

When I get married and have my own family, I want to have three kids only. I believe that is the only number of children that I could handle. But I do hope it is less than the number that me and my future husband can support. :)
I would want to have a boy, then a girl, then any gender as long as the kid is normal. I do not have an older brother, and I have always wanted to have one especially when I was a kid because I thought it is cool to have a big brother whom all the bullies in your class fear. Haha! And so I want my eldest child to be a boy. Hopefully, he will protect his younger siblings. The girl will be my parlor mate. We would talk about girly stuff and go shopping together. The youngest will of course be our baby, the center of our attentions.

For our lifestyle 2 would be plenty. If I didn't have to work and we didn't like to travel so much we would probably have 3 or 4 kids. I have 2 siblings and my husband has 4 siblings. So 2 kids will be on the modest side for us.

I for sure want 2 ... on boy and girl. Idealy that is the way I grew up. My brother was older then me. I loved it. I always wanted a boy first but now... I think I want my girl first. My mom and dad only have one grandson. My dad wants a grandaughter so bad... he talks about it all the time. If i don't get a boy and a girl the first two times... chances are good that there will be three little ones!

3 .. and we're having 3 :)
It's weird.
We had the first and only wanted him for the first 5 years. Then we started talking about a sibling - when he turned 5 1/2 we had our daughter.
*In* the hospital delivering her my husband tells me "what about 3?" .. and you know, it just sounded right?
So here I am 11 weeks pregnant again, with our LAST child :)
