Or something close to it? Seriously, maybe not a real sound proof booth, but what can you do with say, a closet or a small space? Some foam or padding or something? But even once you have that, how should you position the microphone?

I personally always go with the microphone propped up overhead, but it depends on what kind of mic you have, if you have an omni-directional it doesn't really matter because it picks up sound from all directions, but if its a cardroid pattern mic then you may have to play around to get the best sound, but if you don't have enough room for a setup like that I would position the mic so it's facing you almost at your mouth p.s, Shower stalls work great as isolation booths, if yours is small enough you can get a great sound

Wow, I forgot I posted this question all those years ago. It just so happens that since I posted it, I moved to a new location. Trying to record through my computer using Audition, over beats that I have made using fruity loops with various plug ins. Just today I got a Tube MP preamp and a Shure SM57 unidirectional dynamic microphone. So what you saying is, I should have this microphone facing me? I wanted a condenser microphone so I could use the phantom power of the preamp but I'll just have to do it with what I got. Thanks for responding to this. Ra
