As a child I used to suffer with brontophobia and used to hide under the covers, or run to my mums room with my bear and blanket! Dad used to tell me to go back to bed. The funniest phobia has got to be Rhinophobia, the fear of noses! Oh no, here comes a nose run, hide! LOL... Some great phobias there Toots, strange and very very strange indeed.

This is awesome! I have been looking for a complete list of all phobias. Do you have 'em? Your postings are quite informative. I hope to see more of this kind of quality postings. I remember when I was a kid and I think until now I still have it--fear of doing nothing. I hope to get over with it.

I like the fear of phobia words. How funny is that. Everybody has a fear of something. There must be a word for those who are afraid to admit that they have a fear.

well i dont have any of the phobias listed above but thank you for informing us. i know a friend of mine who is claustrophobic. he doesnt use the elevator because he is afraid of closed spaces and he has been traumatized by it because of his past experience with the elevator. last summer our class at 7:00 am was on the 7th floor and he had to walk all the way up because he wouldnt use the elevator. the extent of his fear is really high. imagine walking 7 floors up everyday!. im glad i didnt have to do that.

It does take a bit of time to collate this kind of lists .. there are a lot of folks who just copy and paste without checking the facts ..
I always try to cross reference everything in my lists for accuracy before posting .. so for every single phobia I have had to find and check that phobia with at least two web sites ..
I'm sure I shall still end up with the odd error here and there .. but hopefully not too often

My personal favourite is 'Pogophobia' or the fear of beards! This must be a morning problem for any adult man, though it is probably no fun having Walloonphobis if you live in Belgium. Thanks for the fun list.

Might I suggest, 'Quasimodophobis' as a fear of hunchbacks or bell-towers? Then you could have all 26 letters covered.

I knew someone once that had a phobia of buttons & cotton wool, he wouldn't let people into his home with any form of clothing with buttons on, suffice to say, he rarely had visitors.

They make you think that the people who made the words are actually trying to patronise those who suffer from them!
And how on earth can you be scared of noses!!! Or even opening you eyes!?
Like somebody previously stated, the human mind IS amazing, bbut also very wierd...
