discard just the moldy portion if its only a couple of slices with mold or do you throw away the whole loaf? I wondered what other people did in such situation. We throw away the loaf away because Ive heard that mold has like "tentacles" and once you see the mold green it means that the white mold has pretty much taken over. Am I crazy?

Ew, I throw the whole loaf away. I figure if it's "bad" enough for mold to be on a few slices, the rest of the loaf is no good either. And anyway, what if I miss a tiny little spot of mold and toast up that moldy slice and give it to my son? Ick.

i understand your view. that is what i do. i do remember, though, that my mom used to cut around the mold, like in cheese or bread, when i was a kid. i wouldnt do that. i do like blue cheese though, isnt that moldy cheese...he he!

it depends on what the mould is made of, some moulds are penicillin type with antibiotic properties, I am not sure if bread mould comes into this category, I would recommend throwing the bread away, because some moulds can cause respiratory problems, and infections. The mouldy bread doesn't look very nice anyway. I usually keep bread in the deep freeze, and only bring out enough slices for using at the time.

We have a habit of examining our bread every morning before breadkfast. Our house is so warm that the bread tends to go off very quickly. If we see even the tiniest bit of mold on it, it goes straight into the bin. I would like to throw it out for the birds, but where we live, it would only attract rats.

I would definitely throw away the entire loaf without hesitation. I wouldn't even open the bag to look at the rest of the bread. Mold is just so repulsive.

You are not crazy, the whole loaf should be thrown away if we see mold on the loaf of bread. But I do not do that myself, I just throw away those which I see are affected. I am very poor and I've got to be thrifty. Others survive by just picking up edible things around which should not be done really but it could not be avoided in poor countries especially in the third world countries such as the Philippines. Sometimes, people are brought to the hospital for eating such as this but sometimes we are tempted to do it due to hunger.

I throw the whole loaf away.... ewww! Just can't stand the thought that I might have missed some! My hubby will just break off a piece and eat the rest, but I just can't do that! I hadn't heard about the tentacles, but now you definitely have me convinced to throw the loaf way! lol!

If I see one speck of mold on a loaf of bread I pitch the whole thing in the garbage. Some mold is not visible to the naked eye so I don't take any chances.

It depends how bad/how far spread it is. if its a small mold, i'll cut it out. if it's spread out - the loaf goes in the bin.
