Itchy, dry, winter skin? Try Crisco !

I know it sounds gross. But that dry, itchy skin of winter requires heavy duty ammunition! After years of trying every product on the market, I finally broke down and tried Crisco. (the white kind..in the metal can!) It really works! After your shower, while the pores are opened from the hot water and have some moisture present...slather on the Crisco! Now granted, you are a bit greasy for about 30 minutes, but your skin soaks it up. Any excess, wipe off with a towel. You can even use a spatula and place the Crisco it into a more decorative container if you don't like having a can of Crisco in your bath or bedroom! Here is a reputable website for skin care, it is written for aged skin, but the information is great for any skin! Crisco is mentioned! http://healthinaging.org/public_education/pef/dry_skin.php

I have been using a product that we purchased at Bath & Body works. You use it while washing your hands. If feels just like crisco and I wonder, could you use crisco the same way. I firt clean my hands and then while the water is warm and my hands are wet I take a small scoop and rub on my hands under the warm water. I may try the crisco like this and see how it works. I love your idea, it has the wheels in my mind turning with ideas. thanks

That is a really great idea! I might have to try it but I am going to make sure my husband doesn't catch me rubbing Crisco all over myself. He would think it was his birthday! lol

Thanks for the article link. Someone told me about crisco a long time ago, but I thought they were playing a prank on me. But I've been trying to heal my dry skin and it seems like crisco might work.

Oh my all of a sudden while contemplating the crisco.. I got this vision of my dogs all licking my legs after a shower...lol I hope they don't like it too much. I don't want to be a late night snack. I'm willing to try just about anything. I use johnson's softlotion and that works well but I mostly use it on my hands.

Great tip. This would be great for my hands. They are in water for most of the day at work. When there not in water I'm washing them. I take baby oil baths for the rest of me. That seems to work pretty good but it makes it slippery for the next person. In other words you might encounter a complaining husband! :)
