Would you have laser surgery on your eyes?

As I get progressively older my vision gets worse and worse. I have though about having lazer correction to my eyes, but I also worry about the risks and the follow up surgeries that the eyes require as you continue to age. What about scarring. And what are the risks to the eye?

If I could get it I deffinatly would. My family is known for having glucoma so I can't get the surgery. In the long run I think it would alot cheaper than getting new glasses every year and paying for contacts.

It seems like it would be worthwhile in the long run.

I have seriously thought about it but like you I do worry about the risks. I have heard that your eyes can begin to deteriorate again. It is still quite a new surgery and there has not been enough time to discover whether the eyes are affected in older age. I would have the fear of going blind, so I prefer to wear my glasses as little as possible so as not to weaken them anymore than they would naturally. I just tend to walk around in a slightly blurred world!!

See my eyes are much worse than that, I cannot see anything more than 3-4 feet frommy nose without my contacts or glasses.

It's been around long enough now that I would seriously consider it. My friend did it and is quite pleased with the results.

I cant afford the laser surgery but if i could i would have it done i know people that have had it and they love not having to search for their glasses first thing in the morning i dont think you get scars from it

I have heard that there is a minimal risk of scarring.

If you decide to have it done, I would suggest you do intensive research on the doctor preforming the surgery. I have seen quite a few articles where laser surgery did not go as planned. I would love to get it done as well, but I'm too afraid.

I'm afraid too that is why I am going back and forth about it.

Yes, i'm planning on having it done sme time, when i can afford it. I'd love to have the freedom of not wearing glasses! I've heard that the only real risk are that the surgery doesn't take effect first time and you may have to have it re-done, which can be a bit of a hassle.

A boyfriend of mine has a sister who got it done. She said it waslike being flicked repeatedly in the eye with a rubber band. But though they were red and painful looking she only missed one day of work and is still a very happy patient 5 years later. Most lans offer lifetime maintenance too.

i guess it would be better than wearing glasses do your research on it and base your decision on that.

I actually want to have this done. It's one of the things on my list to save for next. The surgery has been around for quite a long time and the risks now are fairly small. If you look up 'lasik' in wikipedia or a similar site it will tell you the different risks and the details of the surgery.
