I have been wondering about the pronounciation of number that is 10 = Ten , 11 = Eleven 12 = twelve .. 20 = twenty, 21 = twenty one, 22 = twenty two... 30 = thirty 31 = thirtyone, 32 = thirty two... here the questions comes why the pronounciation of 11 = Eleven instead of tenty one...... the pronounciation of other numbers are as usual like 21 = twenty one 31 = thiry one 40 = fourty and so on..... can you explain me !

My guess is that tenty-one would sound too much like twenty-one. It seems like in a lot of other languages, the number 11 sounds different than 21, 31, 41, etc.
