Yeah, I wanted Whisenhunt but the three that are remaining are hard-nosed, smash-mouth kinda guys so any one of them would be a good fit. With Petrino and Whisenhunt gone, I feel like we're picking the best of what's left. None of the finalists is very exciting, but they won't do anything to set back the Steelers tradition. Tomlin is talking about switching to a 4-3 defense though, which wouldn't be awful since our linebackers aren't what they used to be.

ESPN and SI are reporting that Tomlin will be the successor of Bill Cowher. Tomlin is denying any of this saying he has not spoken with the Rooney's this weekend. This must be making Grimm nervous!
Either way I think Grimm or TOmlin would be great! I think the Rooney's might go the way of Tomlin- He is defense.. We've always been a defensive strong team- Last year we looked weak. Tomlin also learned from Dungy who learned from Chuck Knoll.. I think the Rooney's are thinking Tomlin. I just wish they'd pick already so we can move on to who will we draft- Who many coaches will we replace. I believe if Grimm is hired they have to keep the other coaches.. but if they hire outside the organization- Tomlin can change the coaching staff.. (Of course they would still have to be paid as well as the new coaches).
So let's hope for a decision today!

According to www.steelers.com "At this point in time, the Steelers have not concluded a contract agreement with a new coach, nor do we expect to do so today." - Jan. 21, 2007
I still wouldn't mind if they announced Tomlin as a coach. He is young, defensively minded, and seems to be smash-mouth kind of coach. At least then people would be able to guess at what he will do, instead of worrying about who will coach us.

I just hated to see Cowher go out like this. As for the new coach... he has some big shoes to fill but I think he's capable and I like that they went with youth again. Seems to be a trend with Pitt as they hope to truly build character and bonding with the coach and players.
Guess time will tell!

I think that Tomlin is a very interesting choice. He's really young, younger than Cowher was when he was hired (I think), and with a good offensive coordinator, they've got a chance to make another run for the Lombardi Trophy, although probably not next year. Moving to a 4-3 is a bad choice. It's not like we have a LB/DE like Shawne Merriman who can blitz and still fall into coverage. What worries me most is that Tomlin's defense was last against the pass and I don't have much confidence in the Steeler secondary to begin with.

I agree with what you think about the 4-3. One reason Tomlin's defense was bad against the pass is because he runs a form of the Cover-2. Basically, it means that we have 2 deep safeties who cover half of the field each. Because of this, it leaves a decent-sized gap right in the middle of the field where coverage is extremely lacking. Everyone knows about it too so that middle section always is exploited. And about the 4-3, if we did change, we would have to completely redo our front 7. Our D-line and LBs are made for a 3-4. It would take years to fully integrate the defense and have it working, but we are superbowl caliber team now. I don't think we should change anything.

I was hoping for wissenhunt, but I think now it is going to be mike tomlin. He reminds me of Bill alot, I am sure we will know sooner if Chicago loses this weekend.

After his last interview, I think Grim will get the job. He had a 6 hour talk with the Steelers organization. Originally, i thought it would be Tomlin after he spoke to them for 3+ hours. I really don't care who is the coach ofter Whiz went to the Cardinals. I wanted him the most. If we do get Rivera or Tomlin, I hope we don't change to the Tampa-2 Defense or the 4-3 defense.

A local news station is saying that Tomlin got the job, I guess we will find out for sure at 6

I guess I'll have to watch the news then. I haven't heard anything definite so it could just be media hype over nothing. Even if it's true, I wouldn't complain. I'm confident that whoever the Steelers pick will be right for the job.

With the time they are taking it looks to me like they ar waiting for the Bears to lose so that they can get Ron Rivera. Honestly I'd be pretty happy with any of the 3 they have it down to, Rivera, Russ Grimm or Mike Tomlin.
