How to get someone to quit smoking? Do they get defensive?

My Dad has been smoking for many years. I remember a year back I was asking him if he would ever quit, etc, and it just made him angry. Whats some ways I can leave subtle hints or anyway I can make him at least think about it?

Very defensive, it's very hard, ask him not to smoke in the house and pollute your lungs

It really depends on how they got so attach with that vice(s). For some, smoking is part of their system. It is really hard to convince someone like that. But if a person really wants or need someone's help for them to quit the habit. That person will really quit.

Ah well my mum and her boyfriend are both pack a day smokers, and have been their whole life. It used to really upset me as a kid, and I remember I made a "no smoking" sign and got in trouble for it. So if a little upset kid cant stop them, I don't know what would unfortunately.
