I hate it when parents say to their sons that BOYS DON'T CRY!

I really hate it-- human beings cry as part of their nature and boys are human too; they also have emotions. I don't get it on why some parents say this as if they don't cry more than once in their lives. I think people who think of it as being gay or being inferior... are weaklings themselves. A thought like this shows immaturity, don't you think?

I have to agree with you indeed! I have this problem with my husband due to a serious problem we have. Or so it seems for us. He is a wonderful man but we can't have babies. As with all big problems we need to cry, I do it often. But he was brought up with his mother constantly saying that boys don't cry. He cannot unwind properly and he is always tense. I ask him to cry with me are discussing the matter, but he replies he can't, and that he is crying from inside not visbly.

Oh really? I think it is not a good way to raise children. With no intentions of questioning the way her mom raised her though but I think it is healthy to teach kids (most especially guys) to cry as it will nurture their sensitivity withr egards to feelings. It really isn't bad. I hope you'll not be experiencing the same problem when you eventually decided to have children. Good luck with that. I'm happy that I wan't only the one who has recognized this bad mentality.

It's ok, I surely knew it's a him and not a her. I know how good I feel after a good cry and that is how I will teach my children one day! No matter if they are boys or girls!

there is a great strength in boys who can cry. I think if they are brought up not to cry they are emotionally retarded and it can cause so much damage in future relationships

I think that too many cultures are like that, and it is wrong. Men should cry. It shows a sensitivity side to them that is very appealing to me. Blessings, M&M

same thoughts here. i feel bad for the boys who struggle with their feelings because of this old irrational rule.

My favourite book is the "Ilias" by Homer, the most ancient writer of the Western civilitation. Ilias is a poem about wars, struggles, blood.... and yet Achilles, the strongest man in the world, cryes when his leader took her girlfriend. Achilles cryes when his strongest enemy kills Patroclo, his best friend. Achilles cryes when Hector's father comes to him to take the body of his son Achilles had just killed. So you can see that our greatest poet thought that also men (and Achilles was the strongest man) cry. Because crying is one of the most human expressions in the world. But I am sorry when I read these words of yours: "being gay or being inferior". Why do you say these terrible things? Are gays inferior? Did you know that Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Socrates and many other important person were gay? Are you so sure that gays are really "inferior" persons?

hmm i have to make it clear that I DID NOT SAY GAYS AS BEING INFERIOR... what I meant was, men should not be restricted to express their emotions, they are as free like us girls to cry. And that I hate it when their parents or some people would say that they shouldnt because for them a man crying is to be considered as 'gay, wealing, inferior, soft and unmanly'.... I ofcourse oppose this thought. I hope i cleared and answered your question.
