Ok here is the deal. We have a full blood choc. lab. Just recently she has started chewing and licking her back end. She now has several bald spots on her behind and the top of her tail. We know it is not mange and it is not her food. Any ideas on how to keep her from scratching until we can get her in to see the vet?? She has sore places where she has chewed.

You could try a bit of olive oil. Olive oil will help protect the area from the air, plus it will help moisture the area giving her a bit of relief. I had this problem a few years ago, but it turned out to be fleas. The olive oil helped though. And if your dog licks it off, it won't hurt her, olive oil is really good for dogs and most vets advise you to pour a half teaspoon their food a day. It helps with reversing cataracts and helps prevent arthritis. That is what I have heard anyway.

I heard about this problem once. My advice is to take her to the vet, he will know what to do. If I remember right, you need put on her back end something with a bad flavour so she won't lick it anymore. But first, take her to the vet. Good luck :)
