When I first became a diebetic, I took diebetes classes. At these classes, they signed me up for walks to raise money for research. I go every year. One reason I go is because I feel so bad for the children who have this desease. I think that testing their blood and taking shots at a young age must be horrible. At these walks there are many different races. All coming together for one cause.
Now what I don't understand. Each spring there is an African American diebetes walk. They even advertise on the air. Don't they know their fellow Americans suffer from this disease too. Do they only care about their own race? Why is it only an African American walk? I for sure don't feel like I'm invited. I'm not mad or anything. I just don't understand. Any thoughts?

Maybe they are trying to make afro americans more aware of the way that it effects our race I have no idea. It certainly is odd since illness sees no barriers.

I think they do that to get more money for the cause. They found a way to fit in another group towards the cause. If it were your job to help raise money for diabetics, you could see how inventing as many groups as you could would be beneficial. I think they targeted African American diabetes group to attract them to donate to the cause. I don't think they made that group to exclude anyone. The more people and groups, the more money donated to the cause. I can understand why you might feel like you're not invited, because it is a targeted group, and most people that show up will be african american. I am sure everybody is welcome, money is money.

Well, while I do agree with the basis of your thoughts I guess perhaps they maybe are trying to make their own race more aware of the disease and how it effects them. More like an awareness reason. But I do agree, diabetes does not attack color, it attacks humans. And it's not like they're allowed to use the funding raised in the other walks based on their color. Does that mean that the money THEY raise is used only for African Americans? If so then that's not fair either.
Sometimes I really do think that the racial issues are provoked even more by the actual races that complain about it. While they want to be "equal" and treated the same, etc. and have fought for years to obtain that right, sometimes they turn right around and want special rights or separate events based on their skin color/ ethnics. Makes no sense to me.
