people says ragging is must for personality development.wat do u think ?is it correct or not?

Never heard of such stuff where ragging is involved with personality development. According to me ragging is the part of college where new students are welcomed through some funny games and incidents where all the students know each other and minglr together. And I habe no idea why this should be part of the personality development.
