I hate it when people hover over me at the library. Like I'm trying to study or do research and there is this one person who keeps looking at what I am doing or following me through the shelves...

LOL, here is one better. Your in the grocery with your shopping cart and it's pretty full. Someone comes by, reaches in and picks up one of your items, looks at it then looks at you and asks "Is this any good?". I so want to say, "Yep, killed the last guy that asked me that question". LOL.
What is it with people and their concern with strangers business? You have to laugh it off, or go to jail. :-P

Yes, it happens all the time. I think its a human psychology to peep into someone else's things. Like you said, looking at someone else's screen, to check 'what is he doing!'
This also occurs in restaurants! When you are having your food, someone across some other table will take a look at your plate before placing an order, etc..
I think they are just curious ;) nothing personal in it, though it is irritating!

Sometimes I unintentionally do that. Especially if the person next to me doesnt know how to use computer , I usually help them or if they doesnt know were is the best place to get information in their research paper. I think it was more of an instinct.I am really curious sometimes what type of webiste are they looking at. But I never do that most of the time.

i used to go to cafes because i dont have an internet connection, and yes it annoys me a lot too. especially those who accompanies their friends inside and just watch everyone else's monitor like their some sort of supervisor. it also makes me lose my concentration and focus, and makes me self concious, which i may add, makes me more annoyed.
now that i have my own internet connection at home, the funny thing is, it still happens! people around here knows what im doing, but still they feel like they have to watch my monitor all the time. it annoys me a lot, yet i cant do anything about it without looking rude or suspicious. that's why i always do my surfing at night. less prying eyes around.
seems that people are just curious, but what the heck!
