My boyfriend and I have been going out together for 5 years. Since then I always try to make my boyfriend stop smoking, but he couldn't make it. He always said that he wants to stop smoking, he tried many times, but he still can't stop it. Do you have any idea?

Hey I am not a smoker myself but still I think you should tell him about the illeffects of smoking. But most probably you would have already tried that.
You can do this that whenever he smokes just throw the cigratte or atleast go at a distance of 10 feets from him. This should make him understand that atleast he will quit smoking infront of you and slowly completely.
For the hard case threaten him on the issue and dont talk to him for few days.
You can also visit a clinic which can help you medically...

tell him that the cravings only last 3 minutes at a time and that if he chews gum or does something else during that 3 minutes, it will help. i quit cold turkey by taking my mind off the cravings and the 3 minutes went by fast and before i knew it i had quit.

It's easy to tell someone else to stop smoking when you yourself don't smoke. I can tell you also that when it's brought to a smokers attention often that it does make it more difficult to stop. I guess it's like telling someone to stop eating so much when they are over weight. He will stop when he is ready to stop and it will be very difficult. But you have been with him for 5 years now so you must see more in him other than him being a smoker. Maybe if you ever plan on getting married you should ask yourself a couple of questions. "Can I live with a smoker?, "Is this something that will be difficult if we ever have kids together" , "Can I be supportive by being quiet about it when he is trying to quit? When you are in love with someone else you have to know that they are NOT a perfect package. Neither are you. It's good that you don't smoke, but are there any habbits you have that your boyfriend considers not good?

I am a smoker and my boyfriend is not. He like you has been trying to make me stop. As i keep telling him i am not going to quit for anyone but myself (selfish a little but i am the only one who can make the decision) I wont bow down to emotional blackmail ie if you love me you'll stop blah blah. But maybe i have a suggestion. I recently found out my youngest daughter suffers with asthma and although i never really smoked around her i have now made the decision to make the house entirely smoke free which means now i gotta go outside to smoke. beleave me its not nice and nine times out of ten i wont bother. Try making you house smoke free. I now smoke less than before and the idea of quitting now seems more realistic. hope this helps
