you are a little confused. Jews have been living in that area continuously since Biblical times. And there was Jewish emigration to that area since the 19th century or before. At the time just prior to the establishment of the state of Israel there was no Palestine and the land was under British control, having taken it off the Ottoman empire defeated in the world war. The British called it by the historic name of Palestine and it was inhabited by Jews and nomadic Arabs. Jewish settlers bought much land from the Arabs and other land owners The British then proposed a 2 state solution and the Israelis agreed but the Arabs rejected this. The state of Israel was set up and received recognition from many countries. At this time the Arabs of that area became known as Palestinians. Prior to the establishment of the state of Israel, Jewish states had no military force but had been subject to unprovoked attacks from Arab groups which lead them to form defence militia. The state of Israel has a right to exist and has received international recognition as an independent state.
