I have been told today that both my tubes are blocked with scar tissue following a probalbe infection sometime in my life. I am only 18 and have a lond life to live.
Please can you advise on what operation or treatment is available to me rather than ivf.

well, there could be some options, what is the scar tissue anyway? if there was infection can they figure out what it was? or is it simply scarred from endometriosis? There are some procedures that can be done, they can go in and try to remove as much scar tissue as possible from your tubes, and then see what happens. THey can also try to put you on lupron to stop your period for at least 9 months, because if the scarring is from endometriosis, then basically that means that your lining is growing OUTSIDE of your uterus and when you bleed, that tissue FEEDS on that, and grows along with it but it has no place to GO when it is time to SHED like when you GET a period....so it just sits there and scars up....if you no longer get a period for a while, then the endo can not continue to grow and block.
anyway, if you are really serious about finding a way to fix the problem, see what you can do, you may need to treat for an infection or see if you can treat for one now, perhaps that is what has caused it but if it is still in your system you need to get it out. I am not a doctor at all so really talk with your doctor and or speak with a fertility specialist....They will tell you that you are young and I will say this much, if you want to have children, take care of the situation now....
If the scarring is something they can not remove then your best bet will be that of IVF...it is hard but you can do it, and I have been through it myself, I had a hormonal imbalance and a bit of endo on my tubes, they were able to remove the endo, I got pregnant but it was ectopic, and I lost a tube so I only have one tube that is barely functioning....but then I got pregnant again so it is TOTALLY possible.
Find out what the problem is do not give up until you can get an answer!!!

What a detailed response, thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have not been told what the scar tissue is they said it may have been from a previouse infection in the tubes but hopefully will know more at my next appointment on 5/12/2006, this is the next appointment with the consultant.
The way the radiologist explained it to me, there was no options available to me but hey!!!!! what does he know lol!!!!

Hi there!
My gp was very understandable and sypathetic.
I was trying for 2 years and just went to my gp with the enquiry as to why nothing had happened, that was when he transfered me to the local hospital to the oncology department.
It was there where i was sent for tests and was then that i found the problem.
I suggest you just go and see ya gp with ya concerns n go from there.
