First steps. First words.

My daughter is almost 7 months old and she's sitting up on her own making lots of noises like "Dadadada." She's finally getting to the point where I can really play with her. My girlfriend says she started walking at 7 months, but that was mainly because she had an older brother and sister dragging her around. So I was curious, how old were your kids when they took their first step and said their first words (and what were they)? My mom gave us her old digital video camera and, while I've never really liked video taping people or getting taped, I'd love to be able to record some of these moments instead of just taking pictures.

My son is seven months old. He says four words that I know of Mommy, Daddy (descrimately to the correct parent), hungry, and hi. He just now started sitting up, but he crawls like crazy, and can stand up for a minute or so, before he gets scared of it. If I hold his hands and let him stand in front of me (facing away), I can take a step and then he'll take a step too. But that's as far as he's gotten.
As much of a little terror he is crawling, I'm a little worried to see what he'll get into once he's really walking!
