Is Ugly Betty really ugly?

No, I don't think America Ferrera(Betty) is ugly. She's made to look ugly by making her don horrible-looking glasses and wearing clothes to make her look dumpy. America is certainly doing a great job as Betty. Good for her that she won an award for her role. Betty in the Spanish version was not that ugly anyway. She's really pretty after her makeover.

I think America Ferrera (I can't spell)is beautiful. I loved her in "Real Women Have Curves" and I love that she is so completely comfortable in her body. She isn't about to go starve herself to fit into a mold of what is considered "pretty". As for her show, I love it like mad. I had heard that ABC wanted an unknown who wasn't really that pretty to play the part, but Salma Hyack had seen some of America's work and wanted her for the part. I think if anyone else playing Betty, it just wouldn't be the same. Part of Betty's personality is the natural charm and friendliness of America.

America Ferrera is a sweet women who carried the voices of so many young intelligent girls burried in nowhere because they're not " beautiful" She is a beautiful women from the inside and outside.

I think America Ferrera is beautiful. She's has a photo spread in the current issue of Glamour and it really displays just how pretty she is.

I saw her without the costume and makeup and wig and think she's adorable in real life. She was also in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and was awesome. She is not a perfect size 6, she is a full-figured woman and beautiful in her own way. The best part is, she is happy in her own skin.

The one playing Ugly Betty now is really ugly..hehe!She even won the Golden Globe recently. She was so overwhelmed that she won the award. I haven't heard about her being "too pretty".

She's actually quite a knock out if you see her 'before transition' photos. So I won't be surprise she wasn't their first choice.

If the actor succeeds ion making you believe of her ugliness, it can just be her taelnt. And the reasons for taking up a role can be various, and whatever the reasons be, it can all be justified through enacting it well.

I think they probably could have found someone really ugly to play Betty. I only caught Ugly Betty a few times and I though with a few minor tweaks to her appearance she would be pretty attractive.

Yeah my dad thinks she's not ugly enough! I think her whole persona is hilarious but wouldn't say she was amazingly hideous.

she isn't ugly at all and i guess if yu saw her in real life dressed up to go out you no doubt would not recognise her. i think it is just that they portray the character as someone who is not obsessed by her looks and they tend to put her in clothes that tend to make her look bigger than she is and they make her look a bit 'hairy' and hidden with her glasses and braces. it would not work otherwise as daniels dad wanted her to work for his son so he would not be distracted by her looks as he is a complete womanizer - who seriously wants to go out with a guy who sleeps with anything that moves - I find that very unattractive so not sure what his saving grace is - although he does seem to be changing.

If you take a close look, I think that America Ferrera has a close resemblence to Neve Campbelle but a little chunkier. I think she is very cute and has a spark to her eye that really attracts people to her.

I don't think America Ferrera is ugly in the least. As a matter of fact I think she's quite pretty and cute. Maybe people just aren't use to not seeing some bone thin latina doing her thing on TV. When people are all over our screen like Paris Hilton I think America is a breath of fresh air. Ugly Betty is a great show, and I'm so happy she won the Golden Globe.

I think Ugly Betty is pretty off the show. She does clean up rather well. I saw her in Cosmo or RedBook not to long ago and didn't even recognize her as Ugly B.

I suppose what most people foget to realise is that the term "ugly betty" pertains to Betty being "ugly" in the environment of Mode Magazine. In a normal word, Betty isn't seen as ugly. However, the core of the show is based on an average (yet fugly) looking girl entering the world fashion. Hence the overdramatised title.
