Tubal Ligation...opinons on the pros and cons

Recently I have decided that I would like to have my tubes cut and tied. I am 25 years old, almost 26, I have 2 children, and no need for any more children. I have thought long and hard on this, and I am sure of my decision. I am not married, or even in a long term relationship at this point. I have been asked many questions including, well if you meet someone and they want children, what would you do? Well, first off, like I said, I have two children, and if he cannot love my children like his own, I sure as hell wouldn't bring another child into the family so that the other two would be loved less or treated any different. Also, they will know this right off the bat of anything getting serious so they can decide at that point if this will work. I also know that if there came a point where I did want another child, I would like to adopt. There are so many children out there without a secure home, without someone to tuck them in at night and someone to say those three little words that mean the world to a child.."I love you." I am not looking for a yes or no answer on whether to have it done, I just wondered what you all think of it because everyone seems to have an opinion when I tell them. So what is yours? Also, feel free to ask me questions or let me know if you have had your tubes done as I am always open to hearing what other people experienced. Thanks everyone.

I too have recently decided on a tubal ligation. My appointment is scheduled for May 1. I cannot take the pill as it cause migraines, I have 3 children and I'm 32. I don't want any more children, and as you've said, if there came a time when I decided I did want more, then there's the option of adoption because you are right, there as soooooo many children out there needing a good home. However, after my discussion with the doctor, I found out something I didn't know. Although I did realize it wasn't 100%, I didn't know the exact stats of pregnancies after a tubal. Apparently there is a 1 in 300 chance of getting pregnant afterwards. Just a tidbit of info :)

I did alot of reading up on it and understand that indeed there is the risk of pregnancy, and also, the real risk is that there is a good chance that it will be an ectopic pregnancy (where the egg is fertilized ouside the uterus). This in itself is extremely dangerous and it says that if you have had your tubes done and have signs of pregnancy or a test that turns out positive to seek medical attention immediately.

I say each to their own. It is your body, and it is your choice. I had a tubal ligation at 27 years old. I had one child. I have never regreted it.
