10 year old boys with their ears pierced?

My son will be 10 years old in a couple of months. Since Christmas he has been telling me that he wants his ear pierced for his birthday. I tell him that he is a boy and when he is 18 he can make that decision because I am not making that decision for him and the answer is no until he turns 18. Of course his response is all the kids in my class have it done. So when I dropped him off at school I looked in the class and I saw atleast 12 boys with earrings in their ears. To me this is so wrong. I could care less if the whole class has earrings in their ears he will not until he is legal age to do that. Would any of you let your young boy get their ear pierced?

my son is twelve years old and has four piercings, and whilst on holiday earlier this year he got a tattoo, I really don't understand this thing what people have against kids having piercings, if the child is at an age where they can make their own minds up,and they want to look a certain way even if they are following the croud, it is their decision and it is their body, not yours. As a parent it is your responsibility to make sure they get it done at a reputable establishment and not by their friends or some other dodgy back street establishment. By doing what you feel is the right decision for you, you are actually doing what YOU alone think is right and not what is right by your child. The fact is this isn't the 1940's, kids are different now to what they were like 20 or more years ago, I think more parents need to open their eyes to this fact and stop living in the past. I don't have children yet, but I would never let my son get his ears pierced. I would do the exact same thing you're doing. I would make him wait until he's 18 and can make that decision on his own. I think it's stupid that boys (especially little boys) think they need their ears pierced. It seems really unnatural to me!

no I don't think I would either if I had a lil boy. But then again I would have to be put in that situation I guess. I guess it would go by each ones belief's (parents).

I've never heard of a legal age for piercing. My mother wouldn't let me get my ears pierced. So when I turned over 18 I got five holes in each ear. That was in the 70's so I was way ahead of my time. When I think of boys getting their ears pierced it always reminds me of a pirate cartoon I saw. The Dad pirate was yelling at his son pirate that "No son of mine is going to be seen without his ear pierced." Ten is a bit young though. I'd have him wait until high school.
