If he is a reader, gift him a good book
If he likes chocolates, buy him best chocolates
If he likes clothes, buy him a good shirt
If he likes family, present him with family photograph album
If he likes family members, invite all of them to birthday party.

If he is heterosexual, get him a stripper dressed like a school girl
nothing compliments an aged man like the ability to have young hoochies coming on to them still hoo-ha

You could attempt cataloguing the past sixty years with pictures of his interests, typical views of the sixties/seventies so on along with pictures of him and you’re developing family and leave several spaces/pages for years to come!

If your mother is also there, kindly repeat a marriage function as happened as they were did.Because it is a lifetime function ,one can enjoy a lot at that age and they practically remember their SWEET MEMORIES.it is my suggestion only..if it is wrong in your religion, don't misunderstand me. all the best.

I'm trying to convince my Dad to do this for their 40th! He's not the most romantic guy though :P

I guess it all depends on his interests really. If he has any hobbies, then perhaps you can get something for that because it seems to be that people who fish or golf or whatever never have enough reels/golf balls.
More than anything, I suspect that the best present you could give Father would be to spend some time with him on his special day.

Something my dad doesn't have enough of are socks and undershirt. But I don't think those are really special.

That's a pretty broad question! What does your dad like? What are his interests? For example my dad LOVES coffee and he's a very technically/mechanically inclined person. For father's day this year we got him some new tools for working on cars and we always get him some of his favorite coffee!
I would get him something that pertains to one of his hobbies. Or perhaps something that you know he's wanted for a long time but just hasn't purchased. A gift card to his favorite store might work too! good luck!

Thanks for responding. My dad loves playing classical guitar and listening to jazz music. But I figured he's got all the cd's he wants to get his hands into.

They say more the age more expensive the gift should be.maybe you could gift him a gold watch or you could gift him a very swanky stylish modern Swatch.
Im sure it'l bring out the excited side of him.

If you are into crafting, make him something personal ie. photo album, picture quilt, etc.
