Will the new expansion save World of Warcraft?

I quit the game months ago myself, but I have several friends that still play. Pretty much all of them aren't planning on purchasing the expansion, they're just killing time until Vanguard: Saga of Heroes goes live at the end of the month. From what I understand, there's lots of changes coming with the expansion, but it's still the usual deal. Add some levels, add some areas, hope it keeps people occupied for a while. WoW is by the the leading MMORPG out right now, but with so many users growing tired and so much competition coming out right now, is this expansion just delaying the inevitable?

I think if Blizzard keeps adding new "stuff" to the game it wouldn't burn out quickly. I mean it all falls to how you maintain your service and your product. People will always go for new things and if Blizzard keeps up with that then they would stay in the business for a very long time. Plus, they have an upcoming movie in a couple of years, so that might add millions of players new and old to the pool.

Warcraft might have a movie in a couple years, but World of Warcraft will just be another entry in the history book of mmorpgs by then, albeit a quality one. It added a lot of the genre, but these games, unfortunately, have limited lifespans. They do everything in their power to hang onto users for as long as possible but eventually it hits the point where new content is needed faster than it can be produced. Everyone already has a 60. How long is it going to take before the new lands are overrun and conquered? I wish a game truly could last forever, but UO and EQ have shown us, the lifespan is about 3 years. It's sad, but I don't think WoW is going to have much left in the tank by this time next year. At least the next generation looks very promising.

what do you mean save blizzard has so much money they can afford for warcraft to die hell they're most likely already working on the next big thing but yes Burning crusade is the best thing to happen to WoW since it's release.
I Laugh at all who didn't get CE or BC who wanted it ha ha ha

The game will last a very long time because the players will have almost every month something new to do. A new instance a new battleground, players like that and will keep on going, although the new instance is almost the same as the last one just a different layout of the building.
