Has anyone ever had any problems from wearing contacts without taking them out?

I got really busy during December and I never took my contacts out. I slept in them day afer day and didn't change them out, forgot altogether to even clean them. I never had any problems that whole time, it never bothered my eyes, they didn't get irritated or dry. So I wonder what happens if you leave them in so long, what happens to your eyes? Does it cause damage?

This happened to me. An eye doctor can tell when you do this even though you have no personal problems that you exoerience with it. It greatly reduces the amount of oxygen you get to your eye. I had to stop wearing contacts for a whole year because the surface of my eye changed from receiving less oxygen. I will never do that again.

I was just wondering if anything actually could happen. I have been doing it for years, and so far I have been lucky. My eyes are always red though, so I started taking them out and letting my eyes breathe. I didn't know it could change the surface of your eyes.

I have no idea but I like you have left mine in one time for about 2 months without taking them out an my eyes were and are fine as far as i know anyway ... LOL!! I have heard that it is not good because while you are sleeping and your eyes got through REM rapid eye movement that they could in fact get stuck in your eye other than where they are supposed to be. That is a scary thought but i have never heard of anything else !

I just recently got glasses I do not think I could do contacts as I would probably poke my eye out because my hands shake. My daughter got contacts the other day after having glasses for so long.I had a friend whos eyes got infected and swelled shut because she forgot about them and the hospital had to remove them but that was years ago and technology has advanced so much on things like that.

yes it can happen. An eye doctor looking at your eyes will be able to see that your eyes have received diminished oxygen. Your eyes need to breathe. To give them a relaxtion boost take a warm wash cloth and rest it over your eyes. Kind of like a mini steam bath for the eye lds. It will relax your eyes and give them the pampering they deserve. Good Luck !

A long time ago I had contacts. They were extended wear, but I'd almost never take them out to clean them. It seemed like a real pain. Then finally I got an eye infection. My eye swell shut and I went to see the doctor. He gave me medicine for my eye and I was allergic to the medicine. My eye swell up so big and was red. It was so painful. I knew I wasn't going to get better habits with cleaning my contacts, so I went back to glasses. my friend

I fell asleep in mine once accidently and when I woke up they wouldn't "slide" so I could get them out. I eventually put some more solution in and waited, but it was scary! My optometrist advised against the extended wear contacts and said if you get them, it's just better to taken them out at night --after all, you don't need to see when you sleep! ;)
