To say the truth, here in India Dowry is stll being paid and asked for. Although law has been passed against this pratice and a lot of changes have come but still in a small section of the society the practice is going on

hell no, it'd be nice to even get parents to help out with the cost of the wedding, in the uS, everyone is so damn broke and most people have zero savings so it's impossible to give a "dowry".

In some parts of our country, the dowry system sill exists. In my society, dowry system is nonexistent. The groom, however, is expected to shoulder most of the wedding expenses. He is also expected to formally ask for permissions from the girl's parents. He and his family visit the girl's family and they discuss the wedding plans.

Hey i am from India!!
There dowry system has not stopped completely. I mean in earlier time there was dowry everywhere, in veery caste, but now as people started taking good education and good family backgrond, and mostly peopel started keeping all those opld things away and started accepting new things in their life. So its very much reduced, but really cant say stopped completely. I wish it should soon!!
