How would one retreive data from Excel sheets using Java Technology?? Its easy.The answer lies in visualising the Excel sheets as records in a table.I guess thats enough clue.The remaining task is to add the excel driver as a datasource and obtain connection like we normally do when using standard databases like Oracle/DB2/Mysql

Ya, we can do so by registering an excel sheet with the ODBC DSN and then use ODBC for getting the connection to that Excel Sheet.
