I have a Nikon D50. I'm a poor student so all I have is a 50mm AF lens. I'm going to buy a 19" widescreen LCD monitor and a Spyder2express to aid my photo edting. I'm also saving up to get a 18-200mm VR.

I use Nikon D50 too! Quite a good camera for newbies in the dslr world as it is affordable and the function is great too. Currently making it a habit to take picture using the manual mode, and try to do everything in manual like white balance etc.
One thing that I like with slr is that I can take the picture exactly like what I seen with my eyes

I shoot with a Canon Rebel XT digital SLR. It has the same sensor as the higher-priced professional SLR model Canons and handles better.

Mine is a Vivitar 5340s.. Vivitar has been around since I was a child. I love my digital camera, you can take a picture in a really small resolution so you can take hundreds of pictures, then later on you can make it bigger so you'll have a great picture. It comes with a rechargeable square flat battery so you'll never have to buy batteries, and a charger. It's 5mega pixel and has a 1.9tft display lcd, and 3x optical zoom...it comes with that thing that lets you hook it up on your pc too. It can take at least 30 minutes of videos. The downside is that it didn't come with a memory card, I had to buy one but it's really okay. I love it.

I have an Olympus Stylus 700. It has been a good camera for me. I had a Fuji A120 it was good until I dropped it.

I have an OLympus righ now. It works good I think. Mostly, like the lithium battery. It lasts so much longer. We have had the lesseer fuji and it was not bad either.

Samsung Digimax S500, nicely small and perfect for being taken the whole time with you. But I get the feeling that I should have bought a Canon because they seem to have the lower ISO noise or I'm just bad with my cam...

I had a kodak easy share and just bought a Canon Power Shot SD900. I'm still learning to use it but so far I like it.

I own a Canon Digital Rebel, 300D, with a Canon 28-80 f4 and a Canon 70-300 f4 USM. The long zoom is my favorite. I just wish it was a little faster, but those are a lot of money. I'm trying to save up for an XTi. Just three more weddings and I'll make the upgrade.
For kick around I have a Fuji Finepix 2400. I've had that camera for about 5 years and it's been great.

I think if cost is an issue, Canon offers the best option. Mine is Canon EOS 400D, I got it for a little less than $1,000. It's my first DSLR and I'm enjoying it a lot. However, the reviews say the lens kit that goes with this is not extraordinary (but it's not bad, that I assure you!) so if you have more money to spare, get a Nikon in the same specs.

I have a Panasonic FZ7, 6.0 MP, with image stabilization and 12X optical zoom. Pretty happy with it for the price (about $300) and I would recommend it. :-)
