I own my home but I have no mortgage as I bought it outright, then I tore down some walls and remodelled the layout. Nice not having to worry about rent or mortgage repayments
all the best urban

we're lucky to be living in our own house. it took my parents years and a lot of hardwork to pay off the mortgage, and it's all worth it.
i think renting is a waste of money, unless there are rent-to-own houses.

I have a mortgage. If we sell this house and buy another we will be mortgage free though.

We have a mortgage. I think there are pros and cons to both. When we rented we didn't have to worry about the repairs and homeowners insurance taxes etc. However, it is nice to say the home is ours and to build equity. Or course everytime I think about the hole in our swimming pool that has to be repaired I think why didn't we rent. I can't belive all the stuff we have had to repair on our home in the last year. Sometimes I think bulldozing it and starting over would have been easier but at the end of the day I love our home and am very proud to be a homeowner.

We purchased our home. This was because, I could purchase this home and have a lower payment than I could rent anything near the size of this home. The home is also paid off at this point so no mortgage. When we purchased this home....three bedroom homes in our town were renting for 700+ but our mortgage payment was only 525. This was a huge savings. We decided it was better to purchase at that point. We always recommend to our friends to compare the rental prices in the area they are looking at then mortgage rates in the same location prior to making any decisions on what to do.

Temporarily renting. Just sold my first house that I bought almost 9 years ago, and planning on buying a large farm in the spring. We needed to rent while the other house was listed, to make sure we weren't paying 2 mortgages at once!! I can't wait to be a homeOWNER again! I hate renting.

I am renting. I really want to buy a home, but with the way prices are escalating around here ( a million dollars for a 5 bedroom house, for example) I don't think I will be able to afford one for a long time.

I bought a house fifteen years ago because I wanted my own home. I did not want to rent where someone could tell me what color I painted my rooms. I am beginning to wonder why I bought a house now. The prices of houses have skyrocketed. Now I have to worry about paying the new property tax amount, since it has doubled. I still think it is a good decision to buy instead of rent.
