Does the Wind Scary You Sometimes?

I quite like windy days ,there's something exciting about the power. I like to see my white towels blowing on the line too. Today's differnt, I have been outside trying to tie the fence panels to stop them flapping away, had to fight the car doors to do the school runs, there are wheelie bins and other things blowing into the road, and the rain really stings. I have to go pick up from playshool in a minute and all I can hear is bangs and crashes, all the trees are bent right over, it's even taking all the warm out of the home. Does it sary you sometimes when it gets really rough?

Yes it does!! I have never been in a hurricane or a tornado, but I have lived in the desert in a trailer/mobile home that was built in the 70's/80's and it was REALLY weak!! Every time the wind blew (and we did have dust storms quite frequently), the house would shift!! There was one time when I was a teenager and a dust devil as big as a friggin tornado came right up the driveway and blew our awning/patio cover right off!! It was really scary because I was sitting right next to the window witnessing what this "devil" was doing...when it came to our house it took the awning and violently threw it up and down three times and then on the last throw it yanked the awning right off of our house and when it landed, it almost crashed into the window that I was watching through. Ever since then I freak out with major storms that have high strong winds and can possibly have tornadoes in them. I know, I am a puss!!!

our boys slept through all of it in the caravan, not a murmer and we had to empty the awning into the van and everything all while it bobbed up and down, looking back it ws pretty funny, laid in bed looking into the awning to see if the repegging would stay. We never had the awning blow off of anything. I think you definately had it worse, it was your home not just a little tourer you used for holidays. Anyway it's eased off a lot here now, quite calm really, hopefully apart from the fences and roofs that people are ringing up wanting Shrek to go fix the worst is over. See it brings the work in, that's looking on the bright side anyway. Thank-you for your concern, you must have been so badly scared when you lived in the desert, we will be fine it's just cos I'm a mum so it scares me for my boys. I hope the wind never scares you again you've definately had your turn. Take care.

Not at all it scared me reading it, you are brave really to sit and watch! We were in our caravan in August with the awning and we had to tie it and the caravan down as best we could because of the wind, with the washing line, lol. Even in England you expect a bit of summer in August. A lot of people lost their awnings and tents were blowing around. The next morning a lot of people had packed up during the night and gone or been blown away. But it wasn't scary like yesterday.

It is so amazing to see just what the wind can do!! But I would have hated being in that caravan...if I was younger, I probably would have been crying my scared little butt off!! LoL!! I don't see how you guys can do it!! And it sounds like what you are going through now is so much worse than I have ever been through!!!

Used to be bothered by wind. Then got the solar and Wind powered home and it became a necessary thing in my life for electricity. Severe wind in our area a few weeks back blew over some lockers in a factory where I had been straightening the rugs and they fell over. Just missed me. They are now attached to the wall. The wind is nice when you need to be cooled, or make power, or keep smog to a minimum. However, these severe winds are part of the earth balancing itself and we should take care not to be damaged by it. Hopefully, it'll move through and not cost anyone any real money to repair things. Doesn't really scare me, since I am kinda a thrill seeker!

I'm so glad the cabinets didn't hit you! You are right, warm summers days it is lovely to have a breeze, we are luky in that I don't think I've ever seen smog here, it's a city thing isn't it? Usually wind doesn't bother me, quite exiting really but today it is a naughty wind, not the nice kind that makes the pretty wind turbines whizz around. we looked into having green electric but it costs more so we couldn't afford it, it's ok if you have your own windmill but our power companies are a bit evil right now. So far it's only cost me 3 fence panels and posts but we sort of expect it a bit on the coast in winter. Just seems a lot more wind this year.

Smog is indeed a city thing and they usually place them in the valleys so it hangs over them. yuck. The world does its balancing act and we sometimes get the brunt of the effects. Sorry you lost a few fence panels and it is a shame that you don't have a better energy system. Take care my friend!

Yes, it was scary today. It put me in mind of the 1987 hurricane. I had to go just down the street, and when I got outside, the recycle bin was in the middle of the front garden, and plastic bottles and a dustbin lid strewn all around it. I just left it until such time as it calms down. Apparently, there are trees down across the country lanes and everything. Apparently, next week, it's going to turn cold again... hmmmmmmm, i don't know which is worse.

Oh yes, I remember the Gordon Kaye incident... it went into his forehead, didn't it? I hate hurricanes, and feel really sorry for people who get them all the time, like those in Florida.

Gordon Kaye, yes it was forehead bless him, amazingly he was survived but it must have really affected how he sees wind for ever. It must be quite scary, unless you sort of get used to it in Florida.

Here in Canada the weather can get very rough at times, particularly in winter. Last week we had an ice storm to contend with and yes, at times it was scary. I heard you had rough weather last week. Both Matthew and I have many friends in the UK and thankfully all were ok!

I bet you have some awful winters but Canada always looks so pretty too. I'm glad your friends over here were ok, some people in Lincolnshire have had no electic for 4 days now, they must be so cold, luckilyy the only casualies at our house were the fence panels, but it was not nice and very cold.

I live on an island and we get severe winds all the time. a lot of the time we are without power for several days at a time. Its alot of trees on this island so they may fall in several different places and we may not be able to fix it for a while. The winds sometimes gets so bad to where they start to scream and shreik. They do sometimes rattle the windows so bad that i think they ar going to break. so to answer your question, yes

Yesterday that heavy wind really scared me. The other day i was able to pick up our gate that was blown away but yesterday, i gave my hubby a ring from his office cos our fences were blown away and im afraid that it would cause injury or damage to the other people who's passing by, i mean the last fence that is standing is also blown by the heavy wind that is going to fall to the direction of the road and that fence was really heavy so i needed my hubby's help. But anyway, glad that wind is not as bad as it was yesterday but its getting dark again, expecting a heavy rain.

I am sorry you had such and awful time with your gate and fences, I think many of us have.I have re-tied our ruined fences this morning too, my dads fence blew out and hit his car during the night and his friends car was hit by a big bit of tree when they were all in it for lunch yeaterday. It is very grey here and the wind is still quite strong but nowhere near as bad.

I actually have a phobia of wind. When I was little, my mom was walking me to school one windy day. The wind was so strong, I could barely breathe walking in it. Ever since then, I'll do anything I can to avoid going outside on a windy day.

The power of the wind is amazing I've seen those movies too and beleive that the wind can be that naughty. Luckliy it was not like that here yesterday but there saw so much noise and damage that it really was unpleasant and scary. It is a lot calmer today.

That's right,a breeze is ok but yesterday with the rain coming almost horizontally and hard enough and cold enough to hurt it was very scary trying to sort my boys out on the school runs etc.

I usually hate the winter and cold weather, but the force of wind really amazes me, yes it's scary when you see its effect on the nature. also walking in strong wind is amazing experience, sometimes it feels like I was a little kid learning to walk or at times like going through a wall or something.. and when it's behind you, you are just flying away with it :)

Did you try to fly with your arms out yeaterday, it was really powerful and I had a job to keep my kids o nthe ground. I love to feel the wind lift me but yesterday was a really bad one, I've not felt scared of it like that before, it's probably because I have 2 little boys to look after and I know I wouldn't be able to protect them if something big came blowing at us. It's a lot clamer today although still very windy, so I am Ok.

Yes, I am an Indian. And here espeasially in the end of the july session there is massive thunder which is called Kal Baisakhi. This will ruin the major public property. For that I am scare in thunder.

It's the destruction that is the scariest part, all that power. I hope the Kal Baisakhi is not so bad for you in the future, being scared of nature is not nice, although sometimes very sensible.

Its okay if the winds are there like you can feel it, but not too strong winds. I like the wind too. I feel peaceful whenever I feel it blowing on my face and seeing it blow across the garden and even create waves in the ocean. but lately winds have caused destruction and loss of lives, alot of it. So alot of people are now scared of it because its being associated with the catastrophes that happened.

You are right, sometimes the wind is our friend but it seems to be getting more powerful, what a shame that man has caused such destruction on our earth that nature is now getting out of balance.

In the summer the breezes seem playful and friendly even on a windy day but once the winter comes the wind is cold, harsh and unfriendly, I know what you mean, I was scared of it yesterday but it is not as bad today although still to bad for my 3 year old to walk the dog on the beach with me.

i am never afraid of wind blowing.. It is rather quite normal and sometimes relieving to me ..It signifies that there is a lot of energy within you.. If invisible wind can have so much of power, how much of power must we visible things have!!

that is interesting, the power of the wind is amazing but the damage can be very bad. It is something we have no control over and contains a lot of energy.

Normally the wind does not worry me and a strong breese can be invogorating but the wind we have had lately has been a bit scary and worryingly it seems to gradually be getting worse, I was scared yesterday when things were flying around but although it is still too windy for the beach today I am not worried.
