The death of the internet?

I've had a theory for a while now, basically there is about 4 or 5 more years left on the internet before it disappears.
When the internet started, it was full of sites bursting with information, about everything. Gradually though the internet has become more and more a business. All sites are for now is to make money, theres still information but its not quality because thats not the focus(or you have to pay for it).
Then of course there's the portal sites, the internet is crammed with them. Thousands of sites that just have searches, not even useful searches, just odd ones.
So I think that as the internet gets more and more commercialised, it will just get useless because every site will be one that is all about getting money.

And your theory is EXACTLY why the internet will NEVER go away. lol
There are more businesses on here then any one person can imagine, and there is NO WAY that it will just die.
Especially when I know that I can purchase something online (for example a hair straightener for my daughter), for $150 LESS online. Every shopping mall was selling this thing for 189 to 200 dollars. I found it online for $41.00. IDENTICAL, unused, unopened.
And as long as land based companies are going to keep over charging for everything, the internet will always be here.

No one would actually go and bring the Internet down, since it has become part of our life. Just like the television, where all the broadcasting stations need to compete and go commercial. Websites that don't feature quality content would most probably be out of the race, rather than bring down the whole Internet.
Search engines would constantly upgrade themselves to provide a good experience to users, so this will also prevent inferior quality from being on top of the search engines and directories.

You make a good point but there are still plenty of good places out there. As has already been mentioned the internet often means that things will be cheaper. The only danger is if government authorities interfere with public access (as in China) and large internet companies (like microsoft) cooperate with such governments
