I grew up having salad along with my main meal, but when we went to restaurants, the salads were usually served ahead. Now I have many Dutch friends who eat salads after the main course. What is the healthiest?

i think there's no specific time or course arrangement to eat our salad in a healthy manner. absolutely salads are always healthy as long as you won't add up too much fat with what kind of dressing or toppings you'll love in it. some people may love salad before the main course or even after or for me i can also eat salad with my main course if the other preparations or foods will be best to go with the salad too. in our place or at home we also have vegetable salads before the main course but we can wait also for the main course if we love to have them together. the usual salads that we serve after the main course are the mixed fruit salads or even the sweet & creamy style macaroni salads.

I never had a vegetable salad, but I watch the Cooking Channel and get ideas from there (too bad there is not that much selection, now if I lived in California or Italy or Ontario or B.C.!!!) I do have macaroni salads but not that often. I'm trying to lose weight, so there goes the macaroni salads, the potato salads,ETC.except occasionally.

Sounds good to me. It's just if you eat the salad before meal you are less likely to fill up on those goodies.
