Does listing what you eat help you cut down?

I really don't eat enough of the right things, i eat way too much of the wrong things. Will keeping track of what i eat help me cut down? Has anyone got any tips to help curb the cravings?

I tried to start an online journal for free at www.fitday.com but logging on and searching for food just takes too long so i am goig to get a journal that I keep with me at all times so that it will be infront of me to remind me. Hopefully that will help with my diet. I just started 2 days ago cutting out soda altogether and eating granola and fruit mostly with just small portions of meat here and there.

Thats what i think i'm going to do. Just a little notepad. I agree with you, the online things look like too much of a faf.

Yes, I definitely think it helps. Check out the sparkpeople post that someone else made. They have a great way to keep track of everything you eat every day. Or, if you'd rather do it manually, you can make yourself a little log of what you eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and any snacks you eat. You'll be amazed at how much you actually eat once you start writing it down!

HOnestly i had the same problems. I found the greatest site of all. IT is sparkpeople.com. It is an amazing site that helps your record and keep track of what you eat, how much you exercise, and gives you friends and buddies to talk to and get you through it. they offer meals and reciepes. If you go add firemansgirl001 as your referer. Add me on as a buddy also.

I have been counting my calories and i have lost 6 pounds in four days. I have been eating less and drinking a lot of water. I only allow my self to have 1000 or less calories in on day. I only add up my calories i don't right down my food intake. Hope this helps you some.

Yes because you then see actually what you are eating. For instance I used to come home from work and open a bag of chips and munch while I made dinner. When I started to keep track of how much I ate-I realized I was eating 2 1/2 bags of chips a week!!! By myself!! Well its hard to lose weight when you eat like that. So keep track and dont cheat(only cheating yourself) then you will be able to see(like I did) some of the things you are doing wrong. For cravings I use grapes a lot- 2 full cups of grapes only has like 110 calories so they are great for munching when craving hit.

I really believe it makes you more aware of what you are eating
