I'd be interested in hearing from medical/psychological experts as well as every day people on this. Exactly what is it (some kind of disorder or something) that makes tone deaf people with absolutely no style or stage presence honestly believe wholeheartedly that they not only have a chance to compete for the American Idol title, but that they can and will win it? Some of these people (not to be mean, but c'mon, they are downright hideous and sound indescribably awful), they are so self-assured that they seem to border on delusional. I mean, they are so shocked and insulted by the judges saying "no," and sometimes it delivers such a surprising blow that they appear to be emotionally crippled as if they're going to have some kind of a psychotic break or episode. I worry that the world is so full of so many people like this. It's one thing to have some self-confidence even if you aren't so hot, but to be, as I say, completely delusional about it ... well, I just wonder about the psychology behind it all. And, what are we to believe happens to some of these "broken" people when they leave there after having heard the ugly, unvarnished truth put so bluntly?

Maybe the aspiring idols are just clouded by their big dream of being the next amrican idol that they sometimes forget that it's a talent show and you got to have talent to win. I agree with you, that moset of them are really delusional already. Or maybe, they just wanted to see paula, randy & simon up close & personal that's why they are willing to be insulted and ridiculed by the judges jus to see their idols.
