No CD-Rom in MY COMPUTER. Sometimes it automatically appears and works well... I tried to restore my system without success. Why is it happening like this? How it is to be stopped? one more thing you might also like to try reinstalling the drivers before going ahead with changing hardware or opening your cpu box

i dont think its is a serious problem , you have replace you ide cable then it will start working properly again. so try it. Mostly on these types of cases the problem will be with the cable itself nothing more than that.

This problem used to happen in my win98 Operating system. but now I use XP and the problem is gone. With win98, keep some generic CD-ROM drivers handy. You may download it for free on the internet. Good luck....

My husband and I have the same problem. I changed the IDE cable and it seemed to work. The it happened again and I changed the DVD rom to the 2nd IDE slot. I did not have the same problem yet. I can understand your frustration. Hope it helps.
