Does it annoy you when a great movie has several of these scenes?

I am watching a movie, it's great and I am totally interested, then comes another s*x scene. BORING, I don't care about the people's s*x life, and I have seen so many it does nothing for me. It's so annoying, why do they think every great movie needs s*x scenes? Why can't they leave that out? I like s*x, but I could care less about watching it. Boring boring boring! Does anyone else feel this way?

It doesn't bother me very much...except when I'm with other people. I don't know if it's just a lack of maturity on my part (which I hope it isn't) or what, but if I'm with other people and a scene like that comes on I feel really awkward and stuff. Today in one of my classes we were watching a movie that had a scene like that in it and I felt really uncomfortable during the whole thing.

I guess my answer is "it depends."
I hate it when directors and movie producers use gratuitous s*x scenes to get the movie hyped as "hot" or "steamy" when those scenes do absolutely nothing to further the plot. Whenever that happens, I just end up getting annoyed and asking myself "Why did they BOTHER?"
That said, there ARE occasions where a tastefully done love scene helps add empathy for the main characters so when something tracgic happens to them later in the movie, we are kind of "invested" in how much they love each other... so the later event has a stronger impact.
So I guess I'm saying that I am not offended "on principle," but please don't waste my time just so you can get an "R" rating for your otherwise lame film.

but sometimes its really necessary with the story... like with Original SIn (my fave movie) the bed scenes proved qute pivotal. :)

I'm with you, especially in mainstream movies. There are many directors that can insinuate lovemaking without being explicit so I find it a roadblock to my enjoying the drama.

If it is pivotal to the sense being conveyed by story then it should be included. But most of the time some movie plot just added it to prolong the movie and can be cut off without much impact to the story. Its like eating pop corn when watching movies, you eat it because its a habit but you can watch without thinking about pop corn and still nothing change in what you are watching.
Film makers make it a habit that should be stop because like you said it only made some good movies boring. But I guess they add it to capture audiences probably not like you are. We can't blame them, its business by the way.
