Do you think American Idol pays people to make fools of themselves?

I did catch some of the past couple episodes of american idol. Some of which I find hard to believe. I mean, dont get me wrong, I know some people go on and make fools of themselves on purpose to get on television. But do you think that it may be somewhat staged and they pay the "bad" singers to look like idiots. They are definatly good actors if they do. But wow.
Let me know what you think...

That may be possible because some are very exaggerated and likely to be scripted, although let's admit that there are many who just want to appear onscreen and make themselves "popular" by making fool out of themselves. Or maybe, they're really a total fool, and that AI uses these people's foolishness to make money and hope for high tv ratings!

There is no way these bad singers could all not know they are bad singers. To keep things interesting and to make good tv, yes, I think American Idol pays some very good unknown actors to play the fool.

I agree. I don't think the ratings would be so high if they did not throw in some rejects in.
