hey guys.. do you know of any tricks on how i could refurbish my old guitar? it's been with me for almost 15 years now and the sides are ripped open, while some frets are faded..it still plays well and i know that it's too old now. but i really love this guitar!

Hey there, i can understand the attachment u feel . :)
I`d suggest getting it refurbished by professionals but if ur feeling brave, get some hold of some glue/adhesive that will work on wood(ask around before u get one) and after u've applied the glue, apply pressure on the sides (not too much that it break its though :P).Use something that works like a car jack. If u can`t get hold of something like that just use anything heavy to keep the pressure on.Keep it like that till the glue dries (could take hours).
If everything goes well, the guitar shouldn't be breathing out of the wrong orifices ! :D I`ve tried this myself and it worked for me (maybe i was plain lucky)
Frets...This one's more tricky because if u do something wrong it has the potential of ruining the guitar (both of us wouldn`t want that,eh?).So i `d once again suggest getting it fixed professionally .If that isn`t possible,u can try my method.Has the strings cut deep into the frets ? Usually it does at the first couple of frets. If it has, and it buzzes at a particular fret,u can pry that fret loose using as little force as possible and replace it with a new one (these should be available at the local guitar shop). Take care while putting in the new fret.
Hope u find this info useful .I`ll keep my fingers crossed for u.
