Do you give money to street beggars / homeless?

I always see people on the corners of intersections asking for money. They say they are broke, hungry, disabled, ... I hardly ever give money because I don't who is real or not. I have heard so many stories of people just spending the money on drugs or alcohol. I mean, can they really not get a minimum wage job or something like fast food. All of us have to work. I also wonder how much money they really get standing on the street like that. do you ever give the beggars and homeless money? I see some people stop occasionally.

like many others,I live on a very tight budget. When some foods go on sale,I will try to buy more than normal so i can store some if any of my friends/family need some. This is how I share. If i have some spare change and someone asks for it politely, then i will give it to them.

I find that those who are truly homeless often want to be that way. I also think they are mentally unstable if they do but we have no right to help them off the streets if they dont want to be helped.

I would work in a kitchen I would offer to buy a meal but I wont give money. I have worked in a kitchen feeding the homeless but I also know that the offer of a meal is going to be refused.

I too donn't like giving away money to the beggars. Many beggars are in good condition, they can work and get a earning for the daily bread but they donn't, if we give them money, they will become dependent on the people and just go for begging the whole life. i rarely pays them.

although there is a law against mendicancy in our country, i just can't help it sometimes. my heart would always go out for these poor kids who ran up to you and sell you candles or sometimes ask you for some coins since they haven't eaten for the day. i know i'm not helping in a bigger scale but the government is too slow to act on such issues so better help that kid get his food for the day. sometimes i would even feel bad that i'm so helpless to help all of them. if i can't hand out anything to them, i just say a little prayer for those poor souls that God help them out each day.

I never donate any money to beggers, because as you pinpointed and well, you never know who are those who do it to keep their unhealthy and self-destructive vices alive or those who really need it for a reason os subsistency. I also agree that we all have to work and that mindless charity shouldn't be expected from those that are on the streets. At least not coming for us, hard workers, but surely form charity institutions whose job is to give them a help in hand. I think best thing those people have to do is to regenerate themselves by accepting the help of charity institutions who continuosly try to fit them back into society and start from there on.

I don't like giving money to street beggars. I'm a single mom and I remember being 9 months pregnant and still working my bum off and I'm not asking anyone for money. A lot of those people are still very strong so they should start doing something more than ask for money. If it were a kid asking for food, I would give them food but not money. I have seen bums exchange a bag of groceries for booze.

yes i do. I always have pitty on those beggars and homeless people. I mean is it their fault o be homeless? to be beggars? it just so happen that they became unfortunate and dont have food to eat and home for shelter. So why not share your blessings to them a little penny wont hurt your pocket or maybe a little food wont make you suffer if you atleast give it to them right. So thats the essence of love it's better to give than to receive.
