after my father died 2 years ago, i somehow became the head of the family, i'm giving 90% of my salary to my mom for her to manage the expenses this includes, electric bills, phone, cable, and food...i want to save at least something for myself i'm not getting any younger, and i also have for myself, but how can i start building my future when i am tied to my responsibility at home? my mom is not employed, she lost her job when my father died, my younger brother is still in high school...now i am tied to the responsibility that i never chose to have...but i can't leave that just like that because they need me... :(

Hi crazymarie! I admire you for being a responsible woman that you are and for keeping your responsibility as the head of the family. Maybe you can try to save by starting keeping a little amount to your bank account, and little by little it will increase. You have to save a little for yourself so that when things unexpectedly happen you have a extra penny to spend for it.

It's really hard to be the one who supports the family. I understand that everyone should really save some money for the future. I suggest that you save even a small percentage of your monthly salary and put in on your bank account. In that way, you can be sure that it's kept safe from impulsive spending. You can also explain it to your mother. I'm sure she'll understand. Also try to help your mom find other income-generating activities. There are a lot of ideas both of you can share with each other and maybe be able to bring it to life. I do hope that this helps.

If you set aside only fifty dollars a month you will have $3,000 in just five years perhaps more. Those who already have a sufficient amount in savings or a retirement fund might consider satrting a savings account for charitable giving. Worthy ministries and charities can always use a helping hand.

Is your mother looking for another job? She can not depend totally on you to pay all of the bills. You can not live there and pay her bills the rest of your life. You have to have a life of your own. If you were my child I would not expect that of you at all. I have kids 25 and 23 and would never expect them to support me. Your mother can't be that old and should be able to get some work somewhere to help out so you can save some money for yourself, it is only fair. Good luck
