When do you buy Microsoft Vista

I have always updated my operating systems about twelve months after a new program comes out. I did this with XP but friends say I will be missing out on any new features. What are your thoughts?

They had some computer people on television talking about Vista and the general recommendation was to wait until next year because there may be some glitches, like there often are with new systems that might have to be worked out.

I think I can write a guid about Windows Vista for all levels of users by, say, April/May 2007. That way, I know, it would be absolutely safe and stable.

I think it is best to buy Windows Vista a couple of months after it has been officially launched and after the bugs and hotfixes are handled. Better that way than have a headache early. I have previewed it as an IT specialist and, I think, I like it. It's cool. I love the 3D world and Vista comes out so neat. I also love to keep my desktop clean, I find Vista a good solution to such. I love the preview of an active application when u move the cursor on its task bar icon. So cool.

Thanks Nick. The other thing that convinces me to wait is that guys that know what they are doing, like yourself, will probably write guides etc for users like myself to follow.

Thanks for the tidbit, I am so behind the times that I didn't even realize that Microsoft Vista existed. I will have to check it out. But I do agree with everyone saying it is better to wait.

I'll buy my own copy of Vista only if I already have the Core 2 Duo processor in my computer. Since it is new we have to expect for some bugs in the program but microsoft will soon release patches for that.

i havent tried vista and dont intend to for a long time atleast, windows xp 64 bit fulfils my needs it does what iwant it to its stable and i have no problems with it so i wil lnot use vista. i made mistakes upgrading operating systems before and resulting in lots of problems because i did so when it first came out. my moto is "if its not broken dont fix it!" vista also takes a silly amount of hard disk space you need 15gb space just to install it and nothing else and imagine al lthe processes and things it is running it will probably be 5 times more than windows xp does and windows xp was bad when it was first out so chances are if your using windows xp now and you keep your computer as it is then your computer will probably rin slower using windows vista. theres a lot of things to consider when upgrading operating system, my advice is wait 6 months and check what problems people have been having with it there will definately be problems there always is with microsoft operating systems thats how they make their money. as for new features they cant be that good because if you have new features on vista there wil lbe some way of adding those featuresto windows xp even if you dont use the microsoft software there wil lbe other software that will do the same things.

Thanks for your comments, you make some good points. I was only thinking about it as I was looking to buy a new laptop, but I'm thinking that I will stick with XP Pro until later.

You are right to do that, many companies, expecially Microsoft are known for using their customers as the ultimate testers. By waiting a year, you will probably avoid a lot of headache and give you to save for the hardware updates, like you need 2 gig of memory to run Vista. If you find you are not happy with Vista, consider an Apple, they are awesome.

2gb of memory is beyond my requirements at the moment so it looks like XP may remain for the moment
