A lot of the time the models are modeling new outfits and designs, and they're modeling them in front of designers who could go somewhere with it. It also may help sell clothes for companies if other people see the models in them and want to have the same outfit. That's probably the most likely of the two. But if it were just for nothing, then there would be no point.

The fashion industry uses the models purely for marketing their fashion outfits and designs...u just wont be able to see the how the dress actually looks unless it is tried by another human....and here comes the models...anyway i don't think the people are noticing the designs on the costumes...rather the ramp acts as a stage for the models to promote herself/himself to other companies to use them as models for their costumes
